'Cool Papa Bell' by Tom Rodrigues is a portrait painting
In this portrait project you will be the baseball player! A portrait is a picture that shows only a person’s head, neck and shoulders. What expression are you going to have?  Is the ball coming right at you?  Did you just cross home plate for the winning run or did the umpire just throw you out of the game? How are you going to portray these feelings?

To capture your expression, take a picture of yourself or look in a mirror. Use this for your guide. Don’t forget to draw your uniform. What team are you on?  Check out our site for uniform design. Use the medium of your choice such as pencil, pen, marker or paints.

Now that your portrait is complete why not turn it into a baseball card with you stats and team information on the back.

Hundredth Year of Baseball

by Norman Rockwell

What do you notice about the facial expressions?  Do they give the men feelings and personalities?  Rockwell was known for his talent in capturing facial expressions within his paintings.
