"The Record Breaker"

Picture
Robert Thom, 1974

In 1974, Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s homerun record amidst racial tension.

Robert Thom was both an artist and a historian. As an artist he was commissioned by major corporations to create various series of paintings that told the history of a particular subject. This painting was part of the history of baseball commissioned by Chevrolet. Corporations have always found art a valuable investment and a way to give back to the community. Take a look at this current project sponsored by Pepsi that is helping to support new forms of art and new artist in America today: http://www.refresheverything.com/glow
