"Cool Papa Bell"

Picture
Tom Rodrigues, date unknown

Cool Papa Bell is not only a Baseball Hall of Famer but is a contemporary of Babe Ruth. Due to the color of his skin, Cool Papa Bell was not allowed to play Major League Baseball. Instead he made a name for himself in the Negro League.

Rodrigues has frequently combined his love of baseball and his love of painting. In 1993 he exhibited his collection titled Legends at the Stick in Candlestick Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. This collection contained 30 paintings of some of baseball’s greatest players. The paintings were displayed across the field by the position of the painting’s subject (ex. Pitcher on the mound, catcher behind home plate). This was the first exhibition of its kind. What other ways can you think of to display artwork?
