Portrait of General Abner Doubleday

Picture
Unknown

Doubleday was commonly credited as the inventor of baseball in Cooperstown, N.Y. in 1839. However, recent findings have proven this a misconception. Rather, the Doubleday myth was an attempt in the early 20th century to establish baseball as “American.”
