Norman Rockwell, 1939

The 100th year of baseball was considered to be 1939 due to the misconception that Abner Doubleday invented baseball in 1839. The Hall of Fame was also opened during this 100th year celebration.

Norman Rockwell was a painter and illustrator who captured the essence of American life throughout the mid 20th century. Rockwell’s images are characterized by the idealized images of everyday life. While some of his work was created for individual patrons or specific projects, Rockwell most notably worked for The Saturday Evening Post, where over a span of 47 years he created 322 original covers.
